200 Micron Black Builders Film for Concrete Slabs

Black builders film—also known as builders plastic, under-slab membrane or vapour barrier—is polyethylene sheeting installed beneath concrete slabs to help limit moisture rising through the slab.

For residential slabs, 200 microns (0.2 mm) is a commonly specified minimum thickness. However, the required membrane, material properties and installation details depend on the project design and applicable building requirements. Confirm the specification with your building professional and check the current requirements of AS 2870, the National Construction Code (NCC) and any relevant project documents before purchasing.

Installation guidance

Lay the film over the prepared base without puncturing or stretching it. Overlap adjacent sheets and seal joints with suitable tape, following the project specification and manufacturer’s instructions. Carefully seal around penetrations and repair any tears or holes before the concrete is poured. The membrane should form a continuous layer, with edges and upturns detailed as required for the slab design.

Important: Builders film is not a substitute for a complete site drainage or waterproofing system. Confirm the product is suitable for the intended application and that installation meets the project plans and applicable Australian requirements.
